PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Janet McCready practices civil litigation with a particular focus on commercial litigation, involving a wide variety of contractual, employment and intellectual property issues.
Ms. McCready articled with, and practised civil litigation with a focus on professional liability and environmental litigation, at a major Calgary law firm before starting her own business as a research lawyer and consultant. She was involved in a variety of projects in civil litigation and in environmental law and policy. She was also an associate with an environmental policy research institute in Calgary, working with teams of professionals on the analysis of issues and the development of policy in environmental law. She returned to the practise of civil litigation, when she joined the firm in 2001.

- Extensive experience in several areas of civil litigation including, competition law, administrative law, personal injury claims, professional liability, oil and gas litigation, products liability
- Experience at all levels of Court in Alberta in environmental law including environmental insurance, contaminated sites, successor liability, cumulative effects assessment, biotechnology and sustainable development
- Negotiated favourable settlements in numerous occupier’s liability and personal injury lawsuits
- Achieved favourable settlements in employment law and professional litigation matters
- Experience in insurance defence work for several institutional clients
- Successfully represented geophysical company at trial on nuisance claim
- Co-counsel on litigation and administrative tribunals involving regulation of and contracts in the oil and gas industry
- Co-counsel in multi-million dollar group action involving oppression and corporate governance issues
- Experience with several estate and trust litigation matters
- Involved in several cases involving competition, appropriation and intellectual property issues
- Facilitated break-out session at the 1998 Alberta Offset Development Workshop hosted by the Canadian Energy Research Institute
- Researched, co-authored and presented a paper on administrative law and cumulative effects assessment at a conference on Cumulative Environmental Effects Management held in Calgary in 2000.
